Oh No I Don’t Want To Do It, A Procrastination Story!
Have you done it before; say oh I’ll do that later. Or maybe even I don’t want to do it now; I can finish it before it’s due? Those are forms of procrastination, and they are something that you need to try and break yourself out of.
Really it’s something that everyone will do once in a while. Not that they always mean too, but something else may come up. Finding it easier to put aside the other things in life and not doing them right away.
Why do people procrastinate? Because in many cases they just don’t want to do what is needed? No not really, but it’s a problem that some people have gotten down to a science. One that they live each day of their life doing.
I hate doing it sometimes, but at other times it is something that seems nice. However, when it gets to the point that you continually do it with everything. Well you most likely have a problem, a chronic problem that should be fixed.
Frustration may be a problem, but you need to make sure if you like to put things off, that you stop doing that. Maybe not with everything, but the really important things yes. Place them at the top of the list or middle, not at the back of it.
Sometimes you just have to do that deed, no matter how much you really want to keep pushing it back. Making it the last thing that you do during the day, even though you still have time to complete it.
Forcing yourself can be tough though at times, but you can do it. It’s possibly one of the only ways that you will be able to finish something. Though the next day you’ll probably find something else to put off until the last minute!

The Power of Mastermind Groups
I often recommend that small business owners and entrepreneurs have three key tools in their “success toolbox”: a coach, a mentor and a mastermind group. I’ve covered coaching and mentoring in another article and on my web site. Let’s explore the role of mastermind groups in helping you to set and achieve your goals.
For a mastermind group to be effective, it should be small-6 to 8 people. Most groups are virtual versus local. This prevents brainstorming with potential competitors. Instead, groups meet by phone monthly for an hour or 90 minutes to discuss their values, their dreams and their action-step based goals.
Mastermind group members should be working in a similar role (entrepreneurs, online marketers, freelance writers, etc.). This allows for an effective exchange of ideas and information that everyone can contribute to. They should also be of an equal experience level to prevent experienced members from feeling there is no value in the group and less experienced members from feeling lost or intimidated.
A non-negotiable for the group members is their commitment to meeting times. Many groups charge a fee to keep everyone accountable. Regardless, everyone should add the meeting dates to their calendars and commit to it like they would a client meeting. Meeting discussions should also be considered confidential.
A mastermind group should be led by a facilitator, someone who understands group dynamics and has facilitated before. Groups fail for two reasons: lack of commitment and lack of leadership. This individual should encourage conversation, ask questions but should not be the focus of the group or dole out unsolicited advice. In other words, they aren’t there to teach but to make sure members are talking to each other and no one is being left out.
Early sessions with a mastermind group should revolve around determining every one’s personal value systems are. These are unique to you and may be radically different from everyone else. That’s ok. You can’t define your goals if you don’t know what you won’t negotiate on in your life. Is it more money, more time, more space? The group must know your values to ensure they are helping you establish goals that are coherent with your values.
Once everyone has defined and shared their values system with the group, you can move on to setting individual goals. You should not be a part of a mastermind group that thinks small. You have to be in a group of individuals who dream BIG. Set goals to achieve those big dreams, but make sure they are short-term with action steps. One of the purposes of the group is to challenge you when you are routinely not meeting goals to determine whether or not you are on a path you really want to be on.
When you gather a group of driven, engaged individuals you have access to more resources, ideas and contacts than you would on your own. This is the hidden power of joining a mastermind group! They also help you identify, and remove, stumbling blocks you might have missed on your own.
Add a mastermind group to your success toolbox! I guarantee you’ll see results.
